Playa del Carmen, Mexico July 2010

It has been 10 years since I became Mrs. Man of my Dreams. And to celebrate, we packed our bags, dropped the kids off at our in-laws, and hopped on a plane bound for Cancun.

We arrived at the Cancun airport with no problems, but were soon suckered into a timeshare presentation. Chalk that one up for lesson learned. And if I ever see Mr. Victor, University of Texas grad, I will have some choice words for him.

We met our driver, and thanks to Apple Vacations and our travel agent, Jeanne Kitchens, it was off to our resort:  Secrets Capri, adults only, all-inclusive.

When we arrived, we were greeted by the bellhop and nice cool towel to refresh ourselves (Atleast, I think that is what it was for). Then we were escorted to the front desk where we were given all the information regarding the restaurants, the entertainment, and what to expect, and basically enough time for the bellhop to deliver our bags to our room.

When we arrived at room 245, we were greeted with a banner wishing us Happy Anniversary. A bottle of champagne was on the table and rose petals in the shape of a heart adorned the bed.  Exquisite, simply exquisite.

After a quick change into our swimming suits and a glass of champagne, it was off to the pool. We dined at the Seaside Grill before hopping into the pool.

We met our vacation BFF’s that night in the hot tub. Geordan and Brenna hailed from Vancouver, B.C. and were here celebrating their second anniversary B.C.

The next day we ate the breakfast buffet. Yum. Yum.  We then quickly changed into our swimsuits and arrived at the pool, where we would spend the remainder of the day. My husband enjoyed the ocean, but I preferred a fruity drink, my book, and the chlorinated water.

That evening we met up with Brenna and Geordan at the Oceana.  Afterwards we went to the club located on the first floor. I love to dance and had a great time.

The next morning was when we were kidnapped into Cancun for the timeshare presentation. We arrived at some dingy hotel, were given food that tasted terrible, and then were asked if we wanted to spend $10,000 to join their club. Ummm…No.  After that debacle, we vowed never to leave the resort again!

It started raining when we got back, so it was staying inside for the evening. I got to dance the night away, which is pure heaven for me. We met two other couples that we joined on an excursion on one of our last nights at the resort.

One of the highlights of our trip was our morning at the spa. We arrived and were whisked away into the hydratherapy rooms. We started with no more than 10 mins in the sauna. I think I lasted five.  Then we went to the temperature showers and brought ourselves back up to regular temperature.  Next was the cool water pool, then into the massage pool. It had stations of pressurized water.  Our final plunge was into the arctic tank. Brrr, but we were nice and ready for our massage.

We were escorted into a dimly lit room where we were given an amazing massage.  Afterwards we were given a water bottle and left to relax on  a chaise lounge near a babbling fountain. Ahhh, heavenly.

At night, we spent our time doing some of the activities provided by the resort, dancing at the club, and one night made the trip into Playa Del Carmen and went to Coco Bongo.

The restaurants were great, the drinks plentiful, and the staff was wonderful. We met some great friends and look forward to our next stay. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a nice, romantic getaway.
